Lofarma is one of the first pharmaceutical companies that has been dedicated to allergies takes care of you since 1945, when lo-Farma S.r.l was established, a pharmaceutical company that focused on research and development of medicinal specialties, then in 1948 changed its name to Laboratorio Farmaceutico LOFARMA S.r.l. and in 1950 began the production of medicines for the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases. Finally in 1997 Lofarma transformed into a Joint Stock Company and assumed its current name, Lofarma S.p.A. Lofarma has led generations of allergy physicians to some of the most significant milestones in this science: The first bronchial vaccine, the first nasal vaccine, the Bronchial Hyperactivity Test, to the most recent first monometric allergoid vaccine by the sublingual route.

Our Story

Lo Farma S.r.l., a pharmaceutical company focusing on research and development of specialty medicines, is established.

The company changed its name to Lofarma Pharmaceutical Laboratory S.r.l. and began the production of medicines for the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases.

Lofarma develops the depot type vaccine, with features that enhance safety and reduce the risk of side effects.

Lofarma patents the first bronchial administration vaccine in capsules. The same year sees the birth of Notiziario Allergologico, one of the first Italian-language publications dedicated to allergology.

Lofarm patents the first disposable device to perform prick-testing for diagnostic purposes.

Lofarma markets the first vaccine for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, consisting of capsules containing the powdered allergen. The first vaccine with monometric allergoid by injection is produced.

Lofarma research realizes first monometric allergoid vaccine administered sublingually.
Lofarma Lusitana Limitada is established.

Trade agreements are entered into in Greece, Hungary, Albania and Germany.

Lofarma becomes a joint-stock company and takes its current name Lofarma S.p.A.

Lofarma develops the first Hyposensitizing Oral Nickel Treatment.

Agreements are also made to market Lofarma products in Mexico and Russia.

Agreements are signed for the marketing of Lofarma products in South Korea.

Lofarma Iberica and a representation in Austria are established.

Lofarma will celebrate 80 years of excellence in the allergy world.

Lofarma is research and technology

Some product lines are the result of intense research and development efforts thanks to the availability of advanced technologies and unique departments, such as the Acarology department where mites are kept and fed with a specific and unique diet that allows for consistent, quality production in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices.

The batches of mites are then analysed by the Quality and Control laboratory and divided into final batches for diagnostic and therapeutic use.

The knowledge acquired over the years has allowed Lofarma to develop several types of allergy immunotherapies, over 200 tests for allergy diagnosis and numerous products for the prevention of allergies and the treatment of specific diseases.

Lofarma’s technology of allergen in powdered has led to the development of carbamylated monomeric allergoid tablets, a chemically modified allergen for the treatment of allergies.

Given the success of this principle, initially in tablets, the monomeric carbamylated allergoid was also developed in drops and injection form for specific subcutaneous immunotherapy.
