Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is the only therapy that acts on the mechanisms underlying allergic responses and is therefore capable of modifying the natural history of allergic diseases as well as acting on symptoms.
It involves administering gradually increasing doses of the allergen that causes the allergic reaction up to the maximum dose tolerated by the body.
This dose, systematically repeated at regular intervals, induces a response from the immune system (hyposensitisation), which makes it possible to reduce or eliminate the allergic symptoms caused by contact with the allergens.
